MORE ABOUT US

WHY GUYANA?

Guyana is a country located in Northern South America and is culturally part of the Anglophone Caribbean. It is bordered by the North Atlantic Ocean between Suriname, Venezuela, and Brazil. It is the only English-speaking country of South America. The capital city and main port of Guyana is Georgetown, which is located upriver from the coast.

Guyana’s status as a Caribbean nation located on mainland South America gives it a somewhat unique connection to both Latin America and the Caribbean. While FTAs (free trade agreements) and other trade agreements provide particularly easy access to Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, the United States, and the English-speaking Caribbean nations, strong cross-border trade between Guyana and its direct neighbours provides good access to the rest of the mainland.

Guyana’s unique geographic positioning and its socio-political heritage put it at the gateway of South America and the Caribbean. On one hand, its Caribbean and English-speaking heritage enables Guyana to be part of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), while on the other, it is a South American country, neighboring two of the most important economies on the continent – Brazil and Venezuela. According to its Ministry of Tourism, due to its geographic proximity, Guyana has easy access to 277 million consumers, and a US$130+ billion export market with an overall purchasing power of
over US$2 trillion.

Georgetown is a great location for Medical Tourism due to the increased migratory population of expats in Oil and Natural Gas Exploration as well as Single Window Entry – No VISA requirements due an International Treaty with agreement to travel within the South American and Caribbean region for the South Americans and nationals of the Caribbean islands. The property of the 100 Bed Multi Specialty Hospital is situated at Parcel No. 3870 of Block III Plantation Providence, East Bank Demerara. This proposed location lies within the vicinity of all major roads being in the prime locality with easy access to banks, hotels, public transport and to recreation places situated in and around Georgetown

Across differing regions, medical institutions play a major role in the social and economic vitality of cities. Hospitals are particularly important in high-poverty areas and they are striving to reach these patients more frequently at less expensive points in the healthcare system.

Nightingale is specifically targeting the underserved population that does not have access to quality health services. The importance of hospitals to their communities extends far beyond health care. The health care sector has traditionally been an economic mainstay, providing stability and job growth in Guyanese communities. The goods and services that the hospital will purchase from other businesses will create additional economic value for the country.

The catalyst for the improvement of Guyana’s healthcare system was the HIV/AIDs crisis, which was difficult to manage because of the country’s insufficient healthcare system. Since then, however, healthcare in Guyana has improved substantially. Some of the most notable improvements to Guyana’s healthcare system include an increase in life expectancy, increased immunization coverage, increased education and awareness surrounding health issues and decreased infant mortality rates.

Due to the recent development and economic improvement of the economy, foreign investors have been drawn to the country. One of the main benefits of the project will be the development of a community of practice for telemedicine to provide teaching and counselling around complex cases.
